I came to the counseling center feeling fearful because the appointment was for my child and I could feel the urge to “mama bear” but I left thinking, “she gets what is going on” and “that wasn’t so bad”
Do want to feel more confident that you are using the most effective ways to discipline your child?
Are one child’s difficult behaviors putting a strain on your entire family and your marriage?
Do you have a pre-teen or adolescent who has become distant, down or anxious?
Are you an adult looking for help and guidance with a challenging life situation?
In my work with children and their families, my goal is to help you be the parent you want to be.
As a parent myself, I understand how difficult and draining it can be to parent well.
I am a rostered Parent Child Interaction Therapist (PCIT) and have worked with families in challenging situations for over 10 years. PCIT, which is a specialized treatment model that focuses on helping parents/caregivers reduce a wide spectrum of challenging child behaviors, is evidenced based and the gold standard of effective treatments for kids ages 2-7.
In my work with adolescents through young adults, I use an eclectic approach, often combining elements of several evidenced based treatments. During sessions we will have open discussions about what the treatments I suggest and I will always follow the client’s lead. I am trained in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and often use this approach to treat anxiety, depression, and help clients take values based action steps towards positive growth. ACT combines elements of art therapy, narrative therapy, and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT).
I have experience working with trauma victims, have been a direct care provider and case manager in child group home settings, have provided family and individual counseling for families and teens through the Department of Juvenile Justice, and have provided in-home family therapy for at-risk youth. In addition, I have been a case manager for the Disabilities Board of SC, received training through Dee Norton Lowcountry Children’s Center, and have been a contracted counselor for the Charleston County School District.
I also frequently work with adult clients in the following areas:

- Life transitions

PREVIOUS CLIENTS’ FEEDBACK
With their permission, here are some experiences of former clients…
Angie helped my son and I to better understand each other’s needs and expectations. By doing so our relationship was strengthened. Our family absolutely benefited from our time together.
We went through PCIT therapy with Angie in the past year and had a wonderful experience. Angie was professional, knowledgeable, and very personable. She expertly walked us through the steps of the PCIT program and helped us to overcome any challenges along the way. Angie even volunteered to work with our elementary school and spent a lot of time coordinating with teachers and counselors to develop an educational plan that supported our child. We had very good results with the therapy and would recommend her to anyone struggling with their child’s behavior.
