Individual Therapy
Individual therapy is a good option if you are seeking immediate attention and relief for your problems and do not feel comfortable with the idea of meeting with a group. The first few sessions of individual therapy are a chance for us to get to know each other, and for you to make sure you feel comfortable with the therapeutic process. We will also use that time to gather additional background information on you and your situation, as well as family background.
The “middle” sessions are where we will focus specifically on the symptoms that are causing you the most distress and find ways to get you relief, whether it is learning new skills, exploring root causes of your discomfort in more detail and/or setting goals designed to elicit change.
The conclusion of therapy comes when we both realize that you are able to handle life’s challenges and inevitable bumps on your own. The average length of therapy is eight to fifteen sessions but the length can best be determined after our first meeting. Often, former clients return for “tune-ups” as needed, so the therapeutic relationship can continue to be a help and support for as long as you need it to be.
