Groups and Classes
Ongoing Groups by topic:
Mindfulness (also called DBT) is a technique designed to counter extreme emotional reactions - before they lead to overwhelming anger, depression, anxiety, and stress-related ailments. An eclectic mix of cognitive-behavioral techniques, skills training, Zen Buddhism, and existentialism, it helps participants learn to pay attention to their emotions, assess their blocks to controlling them, become less judgmental of themselves when they lose control, and ultimately eliminate overpowering feelings. Worksheets and assessment exercises round out this breakthrough program. Contact Julia Halsey at juliahalsey@mac.com for more information on upcoming groups.
Making Peace with your Past is an eight week faith-based group that explores how dysfunctions from our family-of-origin can disrupt healthy adult functioning, as well as distort our relationship with God.
We plan to offer this group at Mount Pleasant Presbyterian Church in the Fall of 2008. Email us at Info@CharlestonCounseling.org for more information or to sign up.
Meditation Classes: There is more and more research emerging that by practicing meditation and other forms of relaxation, we can literally “retrain our brains” to find calm and peace amidst the busyness and stress of daily life.
I highly recommend the classes offered by Lynn Henderson, owner of One Unity Source Yoga on the Isle of Palms. She offers a five week introduction to meditation that teaches basic techniques. The total cost of the class is $60.00 and reservations can be made through Lynn’s website at www.oneunitysource.com. |
